Village Clean Up Day – Tomorrow!

Saturday 17th October 10am – 12 noon.

Shrewton WI and the Parish Council  would appreciate your help to: clear the stream, remove litter, clean road signs, weed kerb edges etc.

Come along to the bus shelter near the Co-Op (Please bring gloves, lawn edgers, secateurs etc.)

TOGETHER WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE !

Bacon butties make a difference too!

Even if you can just spare half an hour, it will be much appreciated!


A360/B390 Junction Works

Due to the increased volume on the minor roads during the A360 daytime road closure it was agreed with the Contractor to provide additional resource and amend the method of working to avoid the A360 being closed during day time hours.

However there will still be temporary road closure from 19:00 to 06:00 to undertake surfacing operations from Monday 19th October 2015 to Friday 23rd October 2015, (5 nights).


Advance Notice – Elston Lane – Temporary Closure

Wiltshire Council intends to make an Order to close temporarily to all traffic Elston Lane, Shrewton from junction with B3086 to Elston Veterinary to enable carriageway resurfacing, road marking and adjustment of ironworks.

Alternative Route: Via High Street – Maddington Street – A360 – The Gibbet North to Whatcombe Brow – Elston Lane and vice versa.

The closure and diversion route will be clearly indicated by traffic signs.

The works will take place from 31st October to 1st November and then 7th November to 8th November 2015 from 07:00 – 19:00. It is anticipated that the works will take the stated duration to complete depending upon weather conditions. Access will be maintained for residents and businesses, although delays are likely due to the nature of the works.

Advance Notice – Packway Road Works

Wiltshire Council has made an Order to close temporarily to all traffic from 18 November 2015 and it is anticipated that the closure will be required until 20 November 2015.

This affects The Packway (B3086) from Rollestone Crossroads in an easterly direction to its junction with Bingham Road to enable carriageway resurfacing, road marking and adjustment of ironworks.

Alternative route – The Packway (unaffected length) – B3086 – A360 – A303 – A345 – The Packway (unaffected length) and vice versa.

The closure and diversion route will be clearly indicated by traffic signs.

Works will be phased at two locations within the closure area between the hours of 19:00 – midnight. It is anticipated that the works will take the stated duration to complete depending upon weather conditions.  Access will be maintained for residents and businesses, although delays are likely due to the nature of the works.

Trussell Trust Shoeboxes for Bulgaria

The Methodist Church are doing Trussell Trust shoeboxes for Bulgaria again this year. Boxes will be packed at the Church on Saturday 31 October at 10am.

Please come and help or at least give us some things to put in the boxes. We may also need more empty shoeboxes and Christmas paper to wrap them in, depending on how much stuff we have to pack.

Suggested items from Trussell.

Toiletries – soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, facecloth, sponge, wet wipes, deodorant (roll-on only), comb, brush, razors, shaving foam.
New clothes – gloves, scarf, hat, underwear, socks, baby-grows.
Stationery – pens, pencils, notepads, erasers, colouring books.
Toys – teddies, jigsaws, balls, dolls, vehicles.
Other – make up (new only), sewing kits, candles, small household tools, sweets, hair accessories.

Please note that we are unable to accept foodstuffs (except sweets & chocolate), seeds, books, talc, aerosols, medicines and pills.

They are also asking for a donation of £2 per box towards transport costs.

Walking With The Wounded

On 7th October 2015 a soldiers undertaking a 1000 mile walk for the Walking With The Wounded charity passed through Shrewton. Local residents and children from Shrewton Primary School turned out to meet and support them and David Hassett was on hand to take photos which can be seen on this history page.
