Shrewton and District WI meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm in the Methodist Church Hall. There is usually a guest speaker. The WI is for women of all ages – come along to a meeting and discover our friendly and active group of women.
Our local WI also organise fundraising and the regular village clean-up.
Below are a couple of stories from 2016.
Last year Shrewton W.I. ran year-long fund-raising efforts in aid of The Salisbury Hospice charity.
As a result we were able to present a cheque, to the value of £2,160, to a representative of that charity (see picture right). Raising such a large amount of money was a mammoth achievement of which we are very proud.
Thank you to all those people who supported us by attending our events, eating our cakes [surely no hardship: ed], playing our games, etc. etc..
Village Clean-Up Day
Although we were only busy for a couple of hours on the village clean-up day we got such a lot done and, this year, involved more locals than ever which was brilliant. Hedges were cut, road signs washed, weeds dug out of pavements, staples removed from telegraph poles, cans and litter were plucked from the riverbed, etc. etc. Overall we collected more than 50 bags of rubbish which Wiltshire Council, who had provided litter-picking tools, plastic bags and high visibility jackets, later collected and disposed of. The morning was finished off with a hot cup of tea and a chat in the Social Club.
Thank you to everyone who took part, we look forward to meeting up with you all again next time.
