Have your say towards the A303 Environmental Statement

Shrewton Parish Council, as a ‘Consultation Body’, has been requested to provide any information it considers relevant for an Environmental Statement concerning the proposed A303 tunnel and Winterbourne Stoke bypass.

The Environmental Statement includes topics such as air quality, cultural heritage, landscape, biodiversity, geology and soils, road drainage and the water environment, materials, noise and vibration, people and communities, climate and combined and cumulative effects (e.g. the impact on human health is a combination of air quality, noise and vibration, people and communities, road drainage and its effect on the water environment).

To enter your comments please email them to shrewtonparishcouncil@gmail.com. The closing date for this survey is 15 November, this so the statutory deadline of 20 November, a cut-off date that cannot be extended, can be met.

  1. My view is that the plans developed by Highways England; in providing an opportunity for the local populace to present their concerns, and modifying the proposed routing accordingly, is most likely going to provide us with the best solution within the constraints they are having to work with.
Inevitably, there will be some adverse environmental effects, and the landscape will change, but against that one has to measure the benefits, particularly in respect of air quality, our local communities – blighted for too long with intrusive rat-running traffic.
A curate’s egg, maybe, but worthy of cautious support, not condemnation.
