I am writing this as Chair of the Village Hall to update on some essential changes due to this virus emergency.
I hope everyone reading this feels well and is following the rapidly changing rules on how to run our daily lives. One of the things we are currently able to do is go out and get some fresh air, exercise and sun – and the grounds are there for everyone to use but please stay away from each other except for other members of your household.
However, that is as far as the good news goes and there are some things that must change.
First, the Hall is closed for all events. We have been told that the only exceptions are that the ‘Facilities may remain open for the purpose of hosting essential voluntary or public services, such as food banks or homeless services.’.
Second the children’s play area must also be closed. I presume this is to avoid cross contamination from surfaces and that rule must also apply to the adult exercise equipment. We have been asked to put up signs, padlock the gates of the children’s area and tape up the other equipment. However the rule applies from yesterday – so even if that is still to be done, please respect this rule. Really – respect it!
As a side note, this clearly makes a real mess of the Village Hall finances – no events, no sport, no fund raising – but still with several fixed expenses. I hope we get through this crisis swiftly. The Friends of the Village Hall have put so much effort to help ‘Save the Rec’ and now this barrier has put itself in the way. However, I am aware this is impacting all the other venues around our village too. We’ll have a lot to do when all this is over but I am sure our village community can rise to the challenge.
Stay safe, stay well.
