Here’s one that’s actually rather lovely – although we’re going to try very hard not to make it sound like one of those posts that makes you feel guilty for scrolling past. 😂
Salisbury District Hospital is looking for Engager Volunteers.
Engagers are specially trained volunteers who spend time with patients during their hospital stay, providing a bit of company, conversation and something to occupy the mind.
And the best bit?
You don’t need to be a medical expert.
You don’t need to know your way around a hospital ward.
And nobody is expecting you to arrive wearing a cape.
You simply need to be someone who is happy to give around three hours a week to make somebody’s day a little brighter.
So, what would you actually do?
🗣️ Talk and listen – sometimes having someone sit down and have a proper conversation is surprisingly valuable.
📖 Read newspapers, magazines or books – particularly useful if hospital television has finally driven someone to the edge.
🃏 Play cards, crosswords, games and puzzles – and, naturally, you may discover that some patients take competitive Scrabble considerably more seriously than is medically advisable. 😂
The aim is to help patients feel less isolated, improve their emotional wellbeing and provide some stimulation during what can otherwise be a fairly long and lonely hospital stay.
And it’s not just the patients who benefit.
Volunteering can be incredibly rewarding, gives you the chance to meet people, become part of a valued team and, quite possibly, remind yourself that there is more to life than work, washing up and wondering what you’re having for dinner.
❤️ THREE HOURS.
That’s all they’re asking for each week.
Three hours to sit with someone, have a chat, play a game, read something together or simply provide a bit of human company.
You might think you’re only giving up three hours.
To someone spending days in hospital, those three hours could mean an awful lot.
If this sounds like something you’d enjoy — or something you feel you could genuinely make a difference doing – why not find out more?

So, if you’ve got three spare hours a week, good conversation, a reasonably competitive attitude towards cards and the ability to listen without immediately checking your phone…
You might be exactly the sort of person they’re looking for. ❤️
