Our village War Memorial is a cherished and important part of our community, honouring those who served and sacrificed for our freedom.
It is also a delicate Grade II listed historic structure that requires specialist care to ensure it is preserved for future generations. Unauthorised cleaning, although well-intentioned, may cause accidental damage to the stonework or inscriptions.
Therefore, we kindly ask that no cleaning or other maintenance work is carried out on the memorial without prior permission from the Parish Council, so it can be ensured all work is done using the correct methods and materials.
Additionally, permission must be sought from the Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC) before any work commences.
Last year, the Parish Council instigated the lengthy process for maintenance work to be conducted on the memorial. Unfortunately, subsequent unauthorised cleaning – which the Parish Council was not made aware of until later – has delayed the process. Consequently, the planned maintenance work, for which we were awaiting permission, has been delayed for a considerable period.
