THE B3086 IS GETTING A MAKEOVER. DON’T PANIC, YOU CAN STILL GET HOME!

Right then, Shrewton! Wiltshire Council is giving the B3086 a bit of TLC, resurfacing the road between The Packway and the A360 at Winterbourne Stoke.

Lovely stuff! A smoother road for everyone. Although, as with most home improvements, there’s a bit of disruption before you get to enjoy the finished result. At least the council isn’t asking us to live in a caravan while they do it.

🗓️ WHEN: 2nd -10th December 2026
🌙 TIME: 7pm – 6am
📍 WHERE: B3086, between The Packway, Shrewton, and the A360 at Winterbourne Stoke.

Yes, that’s right. Night-time roadworks!

Because apparently, the best time to dig up a road is when most sensible people are tucked up in bed, dreaming of Christmas dinner, rather than listening to the dulcet tones of roadworking machinery.

🚗 THE DIVERSION – A SLIGHT CHANGE OF SCENERY

Traffic will be diverted via:

➡️ A360 → A303 → A345 → The Packway, and vice versa.

Before anyone starts panic-buying petrol and leaving instructions for the dog, the diversion isn’t actually that bad. It’s just a little longer than the usual route.

🏡 LOCAL ACCESS

Access for residents and businesses will be maintained where possible, but delays are likely. Please follow the diversion signs and allow a little extra time for your journey.

The work is expected to take place over the dates above, weather permitting.

And there’s the catch. Weather permitting. Two words that, in Britain, mean absolutely anything could happen.

We could have glorious sunshine, torrential rain, frost, fog or all four before breakfast. The tarmac may be ready, the machinery may be ready, but the British weather is currently checking its diary.

So there we are, Shrewton. A bit of resurfacing, a few nights of roadworks and a slightly different route home. Nothing to lose sleep over, unless you’re one of the people actually doing the work!

Drive carefully, allow a little extra time and remember, the roadworks are temporary, the smoother road is the reward, and somebody will still complain about the potholes by February. 😂🚧
