Right, Shrewton. Put the kettle down, step away from Homes Under the Hammer and prepare to do something radical.
We’re going OUTSIDE. VOLUNTARILY. WITH BIN BAGS.
Yes, it’s the Shrewton Village Clean-Up, when perfectly respectable villagers gather to pick up other people’s rubbish, armed with little more than a broom and a deep-rooted belief that the village deserves better.
🗓️ Saturday 14 November
⏰ 10am-12 noon
📍 Meet in the car park at Shrewton Methodist Church
Got an hour or two to spare? Come along and lend a hand. You don’t need to be fit, athletic or even particularly enthusiastic. If you can bend down, pick something up and remember which end of the broom goes on the floor, you’re qualified.
Although if bending down requires a committee meeting, a risk assessment and assistance from three family members, we may need to adapt your duties. 😂
🧤 WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING?
Hi-vis jackets and bin bags will be provided. Please bring any other equipment you might need, including gloves, a shovel, bucket, trowel or broom.
In other words, we’re supplying the glamorous uniform, but you’ll need to bring your own tools. This isn’t The Repair Shop and nobody’s arriving with a fully equipped workshop.
And please, no need to bring your own rubbish. We’ve got plenty of our own problems without importing them.
🍰 THE REAL REASON TO TURN UP
At midday, we’ll head back to the Methodist Church, where the WI will kindly provide cake.
Tea and coffee will be available to buy at the café.
Let’s be honest, this is village volunteering at its finest. Two hours picking up litter, followed by cake. It’s basically a sponsored workout, except nobody’s sponsoring you and the personal trainer is a woman with a shovel.
And unlike the gym, you get to leave with a cleaner environment and absolutely no obligation to buy a membership.
EVERYONE IS WELCOME! ❤️
Bring a friend, bring a neighbour, bring that person who’s always complaining about the state of the village. Here’s their chance to stop talking about it and get involved. We promise not to give them a microphone.
Come on, Shrewton. Let’s get stuck in, get the village looking lovely and earn our cake.
Saturday 14 November, 10am. Methodist Church car park.
Be there or be the person who complains about the litter on Facebook afterwards. 🤣🧹🪣
