What a team they proved to be!
Within just a couple of hours, the regular tasks of picking litter from streets, paths and stream were completed, along with pruning of overgrown shrubs. But the main focus of this session was to clear the kerb edges and footpaths of weeds and debris that had accumulated over recent months, along with ensuring that the drainage pipes along the High Street were unblocked.
The amazing thing was that, inspite of the hard work, dust and sweat, most people seemed to enjoy themselves! The feeling of community spirit was very impressive – but that’s not surprising in Shrewton, is it?
The support of Bradley at Shrewton Coop (in the form of provisions for hot drinks and bacon butties) was much appreciated, with refreshments provided at Maddington Church Rooms afterwards.
This year, for the first time, an Information Unit from the Environment Agency was on site to provide guidance to locals in relation to flood prevention and management.
On behalf of the WI, I would like to thank all involved – a great effort!
What next? Did I hear someone say?
