The Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) is produced by Wiltshire Council to provide information on a range of potential housing sites, and gives an indication of how dwelling requirements could potentially be met. The council invites landowners and agents to submit potential development sites for appraisal. The SHLAA is a technical assessment, not a policy-making document.
The SHLAA includes estimates of housing potential on individual sites; but these are not based on detailed designs and should not be assumed as acceptable for the purposes of decisions on planning applications. It is important to note that SHLAA sites have no status in planning terms and should not be viewed as specific allocations of land for future housing development. The Shlaa sites are being used as a starting point for further site assessment in the Housing Site Allocations Development Plan Document (DPD), and further sites can be included as submitted by landowners and developers.
