Right. Saturday 26th September. 7pm. Shrewton Village Hall.
It’s Oktoberfest.
Which is basically the annual tradition where perfectly respectable people spend £15 to put on leather shorts, drink beer and suddenly develop a German accent that sounds suspiciously like a pirate having a stroke.
For one glorious evening, Shrewton will be transformed into Bavaria.
Or, more realistically…
Bavaria after a coachload of Wiltshire people have had four pints and somebody’s uncle has discovered the dancefloor.
🍺 There’ll be beer.
🌭 There’ll be bratwurst.
🥨 There’ll be nibbles.
🎶 There’ll be oompah music.
💃 There’ll be dancing.
👒 And there’ll be fancy dress.
Because apparently nothing brings a community together quite like watching Roger from down the road, who normally wears cargo shorts and a fleece, squeezing himself into lederhosen like a sausage being loaded into a cannon.
The Shrewton Oompah Band will be there too, playing all the traditional tunes that make you think:
“I don’t know what this song is…”
followed three beers later by:
“THIS IS MY FAVOURITE SONG IN THE ENTIRE WORLD AND I WANT IT PLAYED AT MY FUNERAL!”
And then comes the dancing.
You know the one.
Everyone links arms.
Everyone kicks their legs.
Everyone immediately discovers they have the coordination of a newborn giraffe on an ice rink.
There will be one person taking it far too seriously.
One person filming everything.
One person shouting “FASTER!”
And at least one casualty whose medical explanation the next morning will simply be:
“Oompah.”
Fancy dress is strongly encouraged, so ladies, get the dirndls out.
Gentlemen, get the lederhosen out.
And if you haven’t got lederhosen, don’t panic.
Just wear something brown and leather and look disappointed with yourself. You’ll fit right in.
🎟️ Tickets are just £15 — which is frankly less than the cost of a normal night out, and considerably more likely to end with you waking up wondering why your phone contains 47 videos of strangers chanting in German.

Come for the bratwurst. Stay for the beer. Leave with somebody else’s hat.
🍻🇩🇪 PROST, SHREWTON… LET’S SEE WHAT THE VILLAGE HALL FLOOR IS MADE OF. 😂
